When it's coming down to veggie burgers, it's every man for himself

Jamie and I are picky eaters, so we're frequently screwed when somebody else orders for the group. The boardroom default is a tray of sandwiches, presumably because the banality of a sack lunch simulation is equally disappointing to everybody.

Imagine my delight, then, when dinner at a recent shoot turned out to be stacks of Lick's Homeburgers, frequently voted the best burgers in Toronto.*

Imagine my horror, then, when I realized the crew had polished off every last cheeseburger, leaving nothing for me but soy burgers. Stacks and stacks of untouched soy burgers. When you're feeding a nearly all-male crew of burly union workers, who the hell decides that fully half the order should be soy burgers?

It was a stressful shoot - the clients were tense, the makeup lady was having a hard time delivering what she'd said she could, and a crew member accidentally shut off the studio's power in the middle of production - but nothing upset me more than getting stuck with a soy burger at the end of a 14-hour day.
