With apologies to George Santayana and Joe LaPompe

Posted on December 7th, 2009

I was still an intern when I judged my first award show. Not having a basis for comparison, I didn't realize how bizarre it was at the time, but I'd love to know what my then-CD was thinking when he sent me in his place. Conspicuous in my cheap jeans, T-shirt and early twenties, I walked around the room, dropping red bingo chips in cans beside the work I favoured. Unfortunately, I barely knew the work currently being done in my own country, much less what had been done years ago across the ocean. I'd praise an entry as brilliant only to have the other judges the real judges roll their eyes and explain the concept had been done to death.

I got better, but I look at sites like joelapompe and wonder just how many award shows are judged entirely by interns.

What would an advertising site be without the fine print? Here goes: Any reference to actual brands on this site is for satirical purposes only and is in no way endorsed by their parent companies
or the agencies that represent them. Neither is any harm intended towards the aforementioned brands, companies and agencies. Quite the contrary — we may well come begging for a job one day.
And really, wouldn't you rather sue Adbusters?
